Yum yum toblerone [Oct. 30th, 2009|04:04 pm]
Hey, sister, I love you, and I'm really glad you liked the brownies.

I wish I could make skype dates with people, but I have such sporadic internet access that it doesn't make any sense. I'm pretty sure NZ is 19 hours ahead. The times when I would come to a cafe are in the afternoon here, or in the evening in california. Therefore, MOTHER, if you'd like to chat with me, first of all, GET SKYPE, and then be online in the evenings. My next guess of heading into town (Henderson) would be Monday or Tuesday (so... Sunday or Monday for y'all).

Going to a costume party tomorrow! I brought a cheap tiarra and will be a princess or something. We planted pumpkins in the garden today. Twas glorious.

NEW ZEALAND BITCHES!!!!! [Oct. 24th, 2009|01:07 pm]
[mood | cheerful]

I will be posting updates on this blog. Maybe things from time to time on LJ.

I am safe and full on Nando's chicken pita and potato salad. I get to check into my room now. Found a friend to walk around with. It's a beautiful day, not raining and sunny, and the people here are very chill thus far. The guy sitting across from me is playing his jazz very loudly. Punk.

Got a NZ phone number! See blog. It's so cool!!!

Excited to walk around the city, yayyyyy!

Fresh, crisp green grapes are my favorite snack food. They're a little dangerous though. All of a sudden they're all gone and you feel really full. Though I guess the same could be said for a pack of Oreo's.

News Today [Sep. 6th, 2009|10:57 am]
[mood | amused]

I was reading the SF Chronicle today. A front page story is about harnessing MIND POWER. Wait, what, really!? You put on this headband thingy and it locks into your brain waves and you can MOVE SHIT with your thoughts. Not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, that's fucking sweet. On the other hand, I feel like it could unleash a whole new wave of evil. The technology is still super new, so the extent of moving things is, like, a plastic ball. But who knows what will be next... we'll have a whole bunch of Professor Xaviers on our planet!
Check it out: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2009/09/06/MNQQ19I31D.DTL

Then I flip to another page and there's this picture next to a story about how Chinese officials had to fire the head of a city because citizens were protesting about the lack of crime prevention.

I can't tell if the picture embed is working... here's the link. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2009/09/06/MN3B19J6GN.DTL&o=0
I fucking love this picture. We've got a LINE of policemen with SHEILDS and batons, and we've got two people WHO DON'T FUCKING CARE. The woman is freaking texting on her cell phone. It's like she sees this every day. Maybe she does, I don't know. But the juxtaposition of what's supposed to be an authority force and the bored nature of the people they're trying to intimidate is great. I mean, maybe the citizens here know the police are doing their job and they don't have to worry about their safety? To me it just looks like these guys are going "Oh shoot, can't go that way, the sidewalk is blocked. Oh well!"

Yay world.

Even after saying "Oh, 'hot and spicy' is probably not good to have so late" she lets me buy an equally spicy noodle bowl. Didn't say anything like "oh yeah, that's spicy too". Just looking for the sale. Damn club, only looking for profit and not caring about customer satisfaction! Let's see if I ever buy from them again.

He can fly! [Mar. 13th, 2009|12:47 am]
[mood | impressed]

I just finished watching half of Cinderella and all of Peter Pan with two of my good friends from home. I am amazed how much I still love these movies all these years later. Seriously watched Disney movies on repeat back in the day.
But I realized something today- most of the movies went straight over my head. Less so Cinderella, but definitely Peter Pan. I was very impressed by how nuanced Hook was when tricking Tinker Bell, and talking about the "woman trouble" with Smee... man that Bell can be so jealous! And what a jerk Peter Pan can be! Who'd want to fight over that!? Except that he's such a dreamboat haha. And Wendy's realization that maybe Neverland isn't all it's cracked up to be and never growing up makes you act like "savages". It's very adult! I wonder how the book is, did anyone ever read it? It's a really interesting story. It was really cool to get more of the jokes now that I'm older, and see neat character behavior even in an oldschool cartoon.
Long live Disney!
.........Except did anyone see the latest South Park? Maybe not so much long live Disney....hahahaha

Draft #2 of Comps: DONE.
I should be done with this shindig by the end of the month, if not sooner. God, I'm good. And modest, obviously.

You know who you are when I say this: I'm glad that we're still friends. What an adventure yesterday! I think my play is going to be a lot better this time around, since now I have actual material. Thank you for helping me make that happen, I had such a great time 8-D

This one time in Old Town Pasadena... [Oct. 27th, 2008|01:14 pm]
Okay. So. Basically.

Accidentals is the SHIT.

We went street performing in Old Town Pasadena today. You don't have to have a permit to perform there, as long as you don't block the sidewalk, which is neat. We have 4 songs memorized, and we sang each 3 times. It was uber hot, so we stuck to the shade but had to take many breaks (and hence only 3 runs of the set).

We made $66.

Someone gave us a flipping twenty dollar bill.

We drew HUGE crowds. Our Glee Club conductor was there too, and she stayed for the whole set and was dancing with her daughter. Some people from school came too and started the crowd, but so many people stopped and stayed to listen. One guy was holding his daughter and started dancing with her, they both looked so happy! Once we were done people kept coming by going "Are you going to sing more?" and we had to tell them no.

Among the most notable audience members:
1. A guy GOT OUT OF HIS CAR AT THE INTERSECTION to give us a $5 bill, get back in his car, and make the green light.
2. The actress that plays Phyllis from The Office walked by and was smiling at us!!!
3. Some homeless guy with dreds and no shirt that got waaaay too close for comfort... he was almost staring at the side of my head, breathing on me as I was dancing. Aaaaawkward!

Obviously, we'll be going back.

I have been so impressed and grateful for this group. Last year was an absolute train wreck, where it was like pulling teeth to be at rehearsal. This year, it's without a doubt the highlight of my day three times a week. The mix of personalities is much more complimentary, and we all WANT to be there. What a novel concept! We enjoy each others' company and actually like the songs we're singing this year (because we have songs that everyone knows and GOOD arrangements... another novel concept!). So it really shows when we perform, we actually smile and dance and look at each other, and because we're having a good time, those watching can't help but enjoy it too.

Oh, and my beatboxing is off the hook.

All in all, I love love LOVE my a cappella group. It's keeping me sane. No, seriously. I would be a mess without it. But it also genuinely makes me proud to be a singer, because if we connect with people like that-- stopping them in their tracks so they can listen, dancing with their family in the street-- that's just the best.

Missed the show? Accidentals will be performing all our songs next at:

Connotations [Oct. 17th, 2008|12:44 am]
[mood | contemplative]

A friend visiting a friend this weekend asked me "How was your midterm break?" and I had to stop and think before answering. I was confused, you see, because I heard the word "midterm" and thought she was talking about a test, and I almost had to say "I didn't have one". So I thought it was funny, because we actually take "midterm exams", not "midterms", which is a modifier, not a noun. Clarifying "which exam? Oh, the middle-of-the-semester exam". Anyway, I thought it was funny how we change the meanings of words sometimes and they don't actually make sense when you take its literal definition. Hmm.

Damn motion in two directions! You will be the end of me!

The good news is I can do the easy stuff. Like, convert from miles per hour to meters per second. And I'm pretty sure I can do the most recent stuff. Free-body diagrams and Newton's Laws of motions make sense. It's the stuff in the middle that will bring me down. But at least I know that I'll get a few points on the exam. I'm trying to be so good starting now for the test Wednesday, so I'm hoping that I can work on the 2-D grossness for the next few days and be super ready when I get the test.

*Enforcing positive attitude*

Did that really happen? [Sep. 1st, 2008|10:12 am]
[mood | wha-?]

The roof of the Cooler is dirty. And the tiles are not all that stable. I wanted to take one with me but then campo showed up and I thought better of it. I wish that the night had been clearer so that when we were all lying up above the quad we could have seen stars. But no, only that strange orange haze. It would have been even more excellent if we could have looked in on people from the skylights, but it was very 2am and no one was there.

I'm pretty sure it was worth it.
